correct and partially wrong. it looks like the nra's proposal is a lot like exactly what happened after 9/11. immediately though grabbed any federal agent they could to throw them on the planes and later on they put together a really poorly implemented program to arm pilots. and not very many volunteered for the program. i can see the reality. look. he is right in some regard. if someone shows up at a school and there is an armed principal and armed guard clearly that is not going to happen it's unseasonable for starters. it is impractical. let alone the safety implications that come out of all of this. did it work in the skies though? >> well, could argue that it is working because there hasn't been an incident but it looks like every time an american aircraft that gets hijacked there hasn't been any air marshals or both planes that have in iad's on board most of them didn't have armed marshals on them and i don't think there were any armed pilots on them either. so, the air marshall program alone is a billion-dollar program. and the armed pilots program is a lot of the pilots believe it

from the nra say they want more gun control? >> that's right. mark warner of virginia says he thinks this was game changer because of the number of children involved. he's a moderate democrat who was opposed to gun control and now says he's ready to look at it. joe manchin of west virginia saying much the same. he also said while he's been opposed to gun control, he thinks it needs to be looked at now. there needs to be some kind of action for both sides to come together and mayor michael bloomberg, who has been outspoken, was asked about whether the fiscal cliff and other issues will push gun control to the back burner. he mocked that idea. take a listen. >> if congress and the president can't focus on two things at once, who on earth did we elect? >> one thing that might find bipartisan support is diane feinstein says she'll reintroduce a ban on assault weapon which is people across the political spectrum have said go a bit mar. maybe they need to be rained in. and the white house is saying that's one specific thing the president would support. >> john: ed henry tonight. thanks. >>

. and also, west virginia senator joe manchin also a democrat, also a longtime member of the nra, said that he has changed his position after the massacre and now supports gun control legislation. lawmakers are hearing today from more than 20 family members and victims of mass shootings across this country. those people all came together on capitol hill and decided they needed to meet with leaders in congress and leaders in the white house. they are demanding that they seriously address gun violence in america. each person who came had a very emotional story to share and they included a father whose 24-year-old son was killed in arepo aurora, colorado, who shielded his girlfriend who the shooter took so many. a mother gunned down on a chicago bus. a father lost his 15-year-old son during columbine tragedy. and the list went on and on. and the photos kept coming out. their message, about 32 people are killed every single day by guns in this country and that it has got to stop. >> today, there will be 32 more families that know the pain and or that you just heard here today. so we pay a
